Anthony Da Silva unveils his demanding vision for the Aigles du Mali

One month after officially signing his contract, Anthony Da Silva made his inaugural appearance before the press on July 6, 2026, in Bamako. The new head coach of the Aigles du Mali outlined a comprehensive project built upon core principles of high standards, national identity, and a distinct playing philosophy.

The strategic direction is now firmly established. Anthony Da Silva aims to forge a competitive and inclusive national team, rigorously guided by clear principles. His overarching ambition is to embed a robust methodology, unwavering discipline, and a strong culture of performance within the squad.

“I commit to doing everything and giving my absolute best to bring joy back to the Malian people. This journey will not be without challenges, and we will approach it one step at a time,” he declared, delivering a statement that was both prudent and filled with aspiration.

To achieve these objectives, the national team coach intends to clarify the specific criteria for selection. The foundational requirements are unequivocally set: “patriotism, which is non-negotiable; discipline, also non-negotiable; consistent performance; and a positive mindset.”

An accessible yet highly demanding selection process

Anthony Da Silva affirmed that the national team door will remain open to all eligible players, without distinguishing between those competing in the local league and those playing abroad. “Provided players meet the criteria we have defined, whether they play in the domestic championship or overseas, and regardless of whether they are 17 or 35 years old, they will be considered for selection,” he emphasized.

On the pitch, the new leader of the Aigles du Mali envisions a more proactive and enterprising team. His tactical vision is clear: seize the initiative, maintain possession, and dictate the tempo of the game. “I prefer my teams to be protagonists in the match, to control the ball, because it is our responsibility to set the pace.” In the final third, Da Silva seeks a more “clinical” side, convinced that this crucial element has been lacking for Mali in recent years.

CAN 2027 qualifiers: the initial test

This ambitious project will soon face its first significant challenge. Beginning this September, the qualifying rounds for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2027 will serve as the new coach’s inaugural major test. Mali has been drawn into a group alongside Cape Verde, a formidable opponent known for strong recent performances, as well as Liberia and Rwanda.

To ensure a successful start, Anthony Da Silva is also banking on close, daily collaboration with the Malian Football Federation and the National Technical Directorate. “This is a collective effort,” he reiterated, before encapsulating his commitment in three powerful words: “honesty, transparency, and immense hard work.”
