National President of NMP, Banda Kani, condemns Elimbi Lobe’s statements on Info Tv.
Cameroonian political figure Banda Kani has expressed his profound displeasure with what he terms the tribalist provocateur, Elimbi Lobe. In an interview broadcast on his platform this Tuesday, June 23, 2026, the national president of the Nouveau Mouvement Populaire (NMP) voiced his exasperation with Elimbi Lobe, particularly regarding Lobe’s recent remarks on Info Tv, a Yaoundé-based television channel, where he referred to the nationalist icon Ernest Ouandié as a “bandit“.
“By calling Ouandié a ‘bandit,’ Elimbi Lobe has disgraced himself,” declared the pan-Africanist Banda Kani. He asserted that Elimbi Lobe would never achieve the destiny of a formidable politician. “He has reduced himself to a scoundrel. He has become a political actor who will never command national influence in this country. He has diminished himself to a petty local politician, engaged in a strategy merely to become a deputy,” Kani elaborated.
A history of shifting allegiances: Elimbi Lobe’s past at the SDF
Delving into historical context, Banda Kani highlighted Elimbi Lobe’s legendary inconsistency, contrasting his current discourse with statements made during his time as a militant of the Social Democratic Front (SDF). “He is pursuing an electoral strategy. Look at his history. Consider his own words in 2011 when he was with the SDF. He glorified national integration. He even praised the role of the Bamilékés in national construction, going so far as to say his best friend was a Bamiléké, whose name he wished to bestow upon his son,” Kani continued.
“In 2015, he was denouncing tribalists. When he was with the SDF, could he have uttered such remarks? The party would have stopped him. You are dealing with a small-time politician who believes that if elected deputy, his political career will reach its peak,” Banda Kani concluded.
