Bénin shifts to monthly cabinet meetings for better governance

The Government of Bénin has adopted a new schedule for its Council of Ministers meetings, setting the first Wednesday of every month as the fixed date for these crucial sessions. The decision was formalized during the inaugural cabinet meeting of the 2026-2033 term, held on May 28, 2026, under the leadership of President Romuald Wadagni.

This strategic gathering marked the official launch of the administration’s seven-year agenda, with the Head of State emphasizing the need for government members to uphold integrity, accountability, and unwavering commitment to public service. The President outlined four core pillars guiding the government’s approach: frugality, transparency, solidarity, and fiscal responsibility—values intended to foster deeper trust between citizens and state institutions.

The inaugural session also highlighted key priorities for the term, including poverty alleviation, bridging social and regional disparities, and strengthening national security. Additionally, the government aims to achieve more balanced development by optimizing the distribution of public investments across all regions of Bénin.

To enhance efficiency, the administration introduced a revised operational framework for the Executive Branch. This reform is designed to streamline inter-ministerial coordination and accelerate decision-making processes, ensuring timely responses to national challenges.

Under the new structure, the Council of Ministers will convene monthly, as previously mentioned. Meanwhile, the Inter-ministerial Committee will meet bi-weekly, specifically on the first and third Mondays of each month. Individual ministerial cabinets will continue to hold meetings as needed to address department-specific priorities.

With this inaugural session, Bénin’s 2026-2033 government is now fully operational, operating under a clear mandate focused on institutional discipline, measurable performance, and responsiveness to the needs of its people.
