The transfer saga of American midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi has reached its conclusion, with the Italian Serie A club Parma activating the purchase option on his loan deal. The 22-year-old, who spent the season with the Parmigiani before his injury, has finalized his permanent transfer in a deal worth approximately $5 million.
Cremaschi joined Parma on loan from Inter Miami CF in October but saw his campaign cut short in March due to a meniscus injury sustained in training. The setback prevented him from making a significant impact at the club, where he featured in just nine matches before the unfortunate turn of events.
His exit provides Inter Miami with much-needed salary cap flexibility as they navigate the upcoming transfer window. The American prodigy, a graduate of Miami’s academy, had previously been named U.S. Young Player of the Year for his performances in 2023 and has earned three caps for the national team.
From Miami to Emilia with challenges along the way
Upon his arrival in Parma, Cremaschi faced an uphill battle to regain his form. The presence of Argentine international Rodrigo De Paul in the midfield meant limited opportunities, and the American struggled to find consistency. After a promising start in his debut month, his appearances became sporadic, culminating in the season-ending knee injury that derailed his progress.
Frustration led to a strategic exit
Cremaschi’s reduced playing time at Inter Miami had already sparked discontent earlier in the year. The young starlet openly expressed his frustration over tactical decisions, stating in August: “I’m frustrated, I want to play. The most important thing for me is to compete at the highest level, and for that, I need minutes and experience.”
His comments hinted at a strained relationship with coach Javier Mascherano, whose tactics left him sidelined. The impasse prompted Miami to arrange his loan to Parma in hopes of rebuilding his confidence and match fitness.
Parma’s gain, Miami’s opportunity
With Cremaschi now locked in long-term at Parma, Inter Miami finds itself with an unexpected opening in their roster. Reports suggest they are eyeing former Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, currently a free agent, to fill the void. The departure also frees up financial resources, potentially allowing Miami to pursue other high-profile signings in the coming months.
