Chaos erupts in bordeaux as psg claims champions league victory

Massive security response fails to contain unrest following PSG’s historic win

As the Paris Saint-Germain secured their first-ever Champions League title on May 30, celebrations turned into violent clashes in multiple French cities. While 22,000 law enforcement officers were deployed nationwide—including 8,000 in Paris and its surrounding areas—localized disturbances marred the historic moment, particularly in Bordeaux and Agen.

Tensions escalated early in the afternoon, even before kickoff. Nearly 20,000 fans had gathered at the Parc des Princes to watch the final live screening. Police presence was intensified, yet clashes broke out near the stadium, resulting in 20 arrests by the time the match began.

Uncontrolled celebrations lead to arrests and property damage

Post-match euphoria in Bordeaux spiraled into disorder as small groups of revelers engaged in altercations with authorities. Bottles were thrown, vehicles were vandalized, and several individuals were detained. Authorities confirmed that similar incidents occurred in Agen, where law enforcement struggled to maintain order amid the unchecked celebrations.

The security operation, one of the most extensive in recent years, had anticipated potential unrest but failed to prevent localized outbreaks of violence. While the majority of fans celebrated peacefully, isolated pockets of defiance led to arrests and disruptions across the country.
