The Côte d’Ivoire has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Morocco‘s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the entire Sahara region. This commitment was clearly stated during official talks in Rabat between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Ivorian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Nialé Kaba.
During the meeting, Nialé Kaba emphasized that Abidjan’s position remains consistently aligned with Rabat’s stance, describing it as a long-standing and steadfast partnership. The Ivorian diplomat also highlighted the Côte d’Ivoire‘s recognition of Morocco’s autonomy plan as the most credible and realistic solution for resolving the regional dispute.
International recognition of Morocco’s autonomy initiative
The Côte d’Ivoire‘s endorsement comes as the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2797, which endorses Morocco’s autonomy plan as the most serious and credible basis for a lasting solution. This resolution has further strengthened international support for the initiative.
Additionally, Côte d’Ivoire pointed to its decision to open a consulate general in Laâyoune in 2020, a move that underscores the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries. The establishment of this consulate was highlighted as a tangible demonstration of Abidjan‘s commitment to strengthening ties with Rabat.
Nasser Bourita, in turn, expressed Morocco’s deep appreciation for Côte d’Ivoire‘s consistent support. He praised the robust strategic partnership between the two nations, built on mutual trust and a shared commitment to strengthening South-South cooperation.

This renewed commitment from Abidjan not only reinforces Morocco’s diplomatic standing but also highlights the importance of regional alliances in shaping the future of the Sahara issue.
