A product of the Paris Saint-Germain academy and a former France youth international, left-back Arthur Zagré has made the significant decision to switch his international allegiance, choosing to represent Burkina Faso.
At 24 years old, Arthur Zagré, who boasts 23 caps and 2 goals for France’s U18 and U19 squads, is set to change his sporting nationality. The versatile left-sided defender, currently impressing at Excelsior Rotterdam with 3 goals and 2 assists this season in the Eredivisie, has opted to wear the colours of Burkina Faso, the nation of his heritage. This information comes from sources close to the Burkinabè national team.
Under the guidance of coach Amir Abdou, who took the helm last March, the Étalons are expected to welcome this reinforcement as early as the June friendly matches, which are scheduled against Biélorussie and Russie.
His ligue 1 debut under tuchel
Zagré, who can also operate further up the wing or in a defensive midfield role, is currently in his third season in the Netherlands with Excelsior Rotterdam. His journey saw him rise through the ranks at Paris Saint-Germain, making his memorable Ligue 1 debut during the third matchday of the 2019-2020 campaign. Hailing from Neuilly-sur-Seine in the Parisian region, he then surprised many by signing with AS Monaco shortly thereafter.
Following loan spells at Dijon, Utrecht, and eventually Excelsior Rotterdam, this left-footed player, known for his powerful strike, found stability in the port city. With his contract at the Roodzwarten set to expire this coming June, the diminutive defender (1m68) is widely anticipated to seek a new club this summer. In the meantime, his debut for his new national team is eagerly awaited.
