Antoine Assalé Tiémoko, Mayor of Tiassalé — a vibrant city about 120 kilometers from Abidjan — has unveiled plans to make local public transport free on weekends. The pilot phase of this bold initiative is scheduled to launch by the end of 2026.
The announcement was made during the 11th accountability day event held at the Tiassalé wedding hall on May 22, 2026. Mayor Tiémoko, a seasoned politician and former journalist, emphasized that the move is part of a broader strategy to enhance local wealth redistribution.
He pointed out that municipal revenues have surged from 24 million FCFA in 2019 to an estimated 91 million in 2025, with projections reaching 100 million FCFA by 2026. This financial growth has created the fiscal space needed to fund such community-focused policies.
As leader of the political movement “Aujourd’hui et Demain, la Côte d’Ivoire (ADCI),” Mayor Tiémoko underscored the importance of equitable resource allocation in fostering social cohesion and economic mobility within Tiassalé.
