President GOÏTA Initiates Construction of 15 New Hospitals!
Bamako, November 10, 2025. General Assimi GOÏTA, President of the Transition, officially launched the Presidential Emergency Hospital Project by laying its foundation stone. This significant ceremony, held at the Korofina Reference Health Center in Bamako’s Commune I District, marks the commencement of a comprehensive initiative designed to significantly upgrade Mali’s national healthcare infrastructure.
Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo TOURÉ, the Minister of Health and Social Development, emphasized that this ambitious undertaking is a direct continuation of the December 2024 General States of Health. These crucial discussions had underscored the urgent need to enhance both the accessibility and the quality of medical services available to citizens across the country.
Transforming Mali’s National Hospital System
The Minister detailed that this project aims for a profound “modernization and restructuring” of the existing hospital framework. Key components include the construction of 15 brand-new hospitals and the strategic conversion of current Reference Health Centers (CSREF) within the Bamako district into fully-fledged District Hospitals. All construction efforts, entirely funded through the national budget, are projected to span 12 months for facilities in Bamako and 24 months for those located in various regions.
The Presidential Emergency Hospital Project is structured around three primary objectives:
- The conversion of the seven CSREFs in Bamako’s arrondissements into District Hospitals.
- The establishment of new District Hospitals in the towns of Bla and Kangaba.
- The development of modern regional hospitals in San, Koutiala, Bougouni, Dioïla, Nioro, Bandiagara, and Koulikoro.
These upcoming medical facilities will be outfitted with cutting-edge medical technology, offering expanded inpatient capacities and a range of specialized services. Notably, this includes the provision of hemodialysis units for the hospitals in Bamako’s 1st and 6th arrondissements, addressing critical care needs.
Project Priorities and Oversight
Following the inauguration, the President of the Transition reiterated that a robust public health system is fundamental to national development. He instructed the Minister of Health to ensure uninterrupted public services throughout the construction phases and strict adherence to contractual timelines. Furthermore, President GOÏTA highlighted the project’s core humanitarian objective: to bring high-quality medical care closer to all Malians, thereby minimizing the necessity for medical evacuations and alleviating pressure on existing healthcare institutions.
