Manchester United storms past Nottingham Forest to secure top-four finish

Already guaranteed a spot in next season’s Champions League, Manchester United secured their third-place finish with an attacking masterclass against Nottingham Forest (3-2) on Sunday, delivering a thrilling spectacle at Old Trafford.
Manchester United delivered a statement of intent in their final home game of the season. Facing a Nottingham Forest side already safe from relegation but still reeling from their Europa League semi-final exit against Aston Villa, the Red Devils took the initiative early through Luke Shaw.
The England international, who had been scoreless for nearly three years, broke his duck with a breathtaking first-time volley from the edge of the box in the fourth minute. Dominant in possession, United created multiple chances before the break but failed to extend their lead, with Bryan Mbeumo spurning gilt-edged opportunities.
Fiery second half sees dramatic swings
Forest fought back against the run of play after the interval. Morato capitalized on poor marking from a corner routine to head home the equalizer in the 53rd minute. But Manchester restored their advantage almost immediately. Controversy ensued when a VAR review failed to penalize Mbeumo for a possible handball in the box, allowing Gonçalo Ramos to put United back in front just two minutes later (55th).
Bruno Fernandes matches Premier League assist record
Mbeumo, wasteful for much of the match, finally got on the scoresheet in the 76th minute, pouncing on a Bruno Fernandes cross. His goal marked his 20th assist of the season—tying the Premier League single-season record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. Forest kept the pressure on through Gibbs-White’s strike in the 78th minute, but United held firm to claim all three points in a pulsating encounter.
With one matchday remaining, Fernandes now has the chance to break the record when Manchester United travel to Brighton on Sunday at 5pm. Forest, meanwhile, close their season at home against Bournemouth in a bid to secure a Champions League qualification spot.
