Morocco is actively participating in the second Political Conference on the peace-security-development nexus, taking place in Mombasa, Kenya, on July 11 and 12.

This conference builds on the momentum of the first edition held in Tangier from October 25 to 27, 2022, which resulted in the Tangier Declaration. This landmark document established an integrated African vision for the peace-security-development nexus, emphasizing coordinated public policies, strengthened partnerships, and concrete initiatives to foster lasting peace, security, and development across the continent.

The Tangier Process has since emerged as Africa’s leading dialogue platform on the interdependence between peace, security, and development. It brings together key continental and international stakeholders, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the United Nations Development Programme, the African Import-Export Bank, and the African Development Bank.

The upcoming conference aims to assess progress in implementing the Tangier Declaration and to identify practical strategies to further strengthen the peace-security-development nexus in Africa.

The agenda features five thematic panels covering:

  • Implementation of the Tangier Declaration through targeted projects
  • The role of artificial intelligence and youth-driven innovations
  • Linking security expenditures with development goals
  • Mobilizing funding for nexus-related initiatives
  • Lessons learned from the African Union’s support for complex political transitions

Morocco’s delegation, led by Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi—Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa—will highlight the Kingdom’s commitment to an integrated approach to peace, security, and development. The focus will be on reinforcing partnerships and advancing African solutions tailored to the continent’s priorities and challenges.
