Senegal gets new prime minister after Sonko’s removal

On may 25, 2026, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye appointed economist Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as the country’s new prime minister. The decision was formalized through a decree broadcast on national television.
Before this appointment, Mr. Lô served as the secretary-general in the first government formed by President Faye, who has led the country since April 2014. He later took on the role of minister in the administration.
This leadership change comes just four days after the dismissal of former prime minister Ousmane Sonko, amid escalating tensions between the two key figures in Senegal’s executive branch over recent months.
