Togo’s Power Sector Under Scrutiny After CEET Leadership Change
The leadership of Togo’s national power utility, the Compagnie Énergie Électrique du Togo (CEET), has been reshuffled following the removal of its Director General, Débo-K’mba Barandao. The decision, confirmed by multiple sources within the sector, marks a significant shift in the management of the state-owned entity.
While no official statement has been released regarding the reasons behind the dismissal, the move comes at a critical juncture for the CEET. The company has long grappled with persistent challenges in electricity distribution, service reliability, and infrastructure modernization across Togo’s national grid.
Appointed in March 2022, Barandao was tasked with overseeing sweeping reforms aimed at restructuring the utility both operationally and administratively. His tenure was characterized by ambitious initiatives to enhance efficiency and address long-standing inefficiencies within the organization.
The CEET serves as a cornerstone of Togo’s energy sector, yet it continues to face recurring obstacles such as frequent power outages and the urgent need for technological upgrades. These issues have placed additional pressure on the utility to deliver consistent and reliable electricity to households and businesses nationwide.
As of now, no successor has been announced. Authorities have indicated that a new appointment will be finalized in the coming days to ensure seamless operational continuity and maintain momentum in the ongoing efforts to revitalize the country’s power infrastructure.
