Togo’s president congratulates Museveni at Uganda’s inauguration ceremony

The President of Togo, Faure Gnassingbé, paid an official visit to Kampala, Uganda, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, to attend the inauguration of President Yoweri Museveni, who was re-elected in the general election held on January 15 of the same year.

The ceremony, themed “Safeguarding achievements and advancing toward upper-middle-income status”, brought together African heads of state and delegations from Europe, Asia, and America.

During the visit, Faure Gnassingbé extended his congratulations to Museveni and wished him success in his new term. In response, Yoweri Museveni praised the Togolese leader’s presence, highlighting it as a testament to the strong cooperation between Lomé and Kampala.

Discussions also focused on security challenges in the Great Lakes region. As the African Union mediator for the crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Faure Gnassingbé reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing consultations with regional stakeholders to achieve a lasting resolution to the conflict.
