29 suspects arrested in N’Djamena for serious crimes

The National Police of Chad has unveiled the identities of 29 suspected criminals apprehended during recent operations in N’Djamena. The arrests, conducted between May 15 and June 1, 2026, targeted individuals involved in a range of serious offenses.

Coordinated operations lead to multiple arrests

The crackdown was the result of a joint effort involving the intelligence unit, public security commissariats, central intelligence and investigations services, and the Ngueli border police station. According to the police leadership, these coordinated actions have significantly disrupted illicit activities in the capital.

General Mahamat Idriss, head of the National Police, confirmed that the suspects face charges including arms trafficking, criminal conspiracy, aggravated theft, armed robbery, vehicle burglaries, and illegal entry into the country.

Cases span a variety of crimes

Following their formal interrogation, the suspects were categorized into four distinct groups based on the severity and nature of their alleged crimes. The cases include:

  • Criminal organizations and aggravated armed robbery — involving multiple suspects allegedly planning and executing violent heists.
  • Motorcycle theft with accomplices — several individuals caught in the act of stealing motorcycles, often involving multiple offenders working together.
  • Theft of high-value items — including computers, smartphones, gold jewelry, carpets, and aluminum sheets, indicating targeted thefts of both household and commercial goods.
  • Pickpocketing and vehicle break-ins — some suspects were arrested while committing these crimes, showcasing the police’s proactive approach in preventing further incidents.

The ongoing investigation aims to dismantle these criminal networks and bring all involved parties to justice. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local law enforcement.
