Arsenal and Newcastle in talks over Brazilian star Bruno Guimaraes

Arsenal has opened direct negotiations with Newcastle United for the potential signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who has made clear his desire to leave his current club. The 28-year-old international has informed Newcastle’s management of his intention to join the Premier League champions before the new season kicks off.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Guimaraes follows their failed attempts to secure Morgan Rogers, who joined Chelsea for a record £117 million. The Gunners also opted not to meet Aston Villa’s valuation for the player, redirecting their transfer budget elsewhere. Similarly, a proposed £85 million deal for Mateus Fernandes was deemed excessive before he eventually signed with Tottenham, while Bournemouth remains determined to retain Alex Scott despite the midfielder’s reluctance to extend his contract.

In a swift move to bolster their squad, Arsenal has agreed to a £34 million deal for Christos Tzolis, winger from Club Brugge. The former Norwich City player is expected in London this week for a medical examination ahead of his transfer to the Emirates Stadium. The move underscores the club’s ambition to finalize its first-team roster as preparations intensify for the upcoming 2026-2027 season.

Arsenal will open their season on August 21 against newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium. Meanwhile, Newcastle faces Liverpool at St James’ Park just two days later.
