Arsenal’s title hopes could spark Gabriel Martinelli’s exit

Arsenal are on the brink of Premier League glory for the first time since 2004, but a potential title triumph could come at a cost. According to former Gunners defender Mikaël Silvestre, Gabriel Martinelli may push for a summer transfer if Arsenal secure the league title, citing concerns over his limited playing time.

With just two matches remaining, the north London side hold a two-point lead over Manchester City, who must overcome Bournemouth and Aston Villa to retain their crown. Victory for Arsenal against Burnley and Crystal Palace would hand them their first championship in over two decades, making this a pivotal moment for the club and its players.

Martinelli’s future hangs in the balance

Martinelli, a Brazilian international with 22 caps, has featured prominently for Arsenal since his 2019 debut, amassing nearly 300 appearances. However, his role has diminished significantly this season, with the winger starting just ten Premier League games and often featuring as a substitute. This lack of consistent game time could prompt the 23-year-old to seek a new challenge in the coming months.

Silvestre, who now works as a pundit, suggested that a move might be in Martinelli’s best interests, stating: « He’s an international player who wants to play regularly, and right now, Leandro Trossard has been more favored in that regard. If Arsenal win the league, this summer could be the perfect time for him to leave. The club would then need to find a suitable replacement to fill the void. »

Arsenal eye a rising star as potential replacement

With Martinelli’s future uncertain, Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, a young French winger whose attacking prowess has caught the eye of many top European clubs. Silvestre believes Barcola has the potential to step into Martinelli’s role, though he acknowledges the 20-year-old still has room for improvement.

The former defender added: « Barcola is already a dynamic presence in one-on-one duels, excels at creating space, and delivers key passes. His finishing needs refinement, but once he polishes that aspect, he could become a complete player. He’s not yet a Champions League starter, but his qualities are undeniable. »

Title triumph could accelerate squad overhaul

Regardless of whether Arsenal also lift the Champions League trophy—potentially facing Paris Saint-Germain in the final—their success would likely trigger a summer transfer window overhaul. With Arteta’s squad needing reinforcement, the club may look to balance ambition with pragmatism, ensuring that star players remain motivated while addressing areas of weakness.
