Chelsea signs Morgan Rogers in second-most expensive Premier League transfer

Chelsea Football Club has finalized the acquisition of English forward Morgan Rogers, securing his services from Aston Villa ahead of the upcoming season. The 23-year-old international has inked a long-term deal with the Blues, committing to Stamford Bridge until 2033 under manager Xabi Alonso’s leadership.

Rogers arrives at Chelsea after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young attacking talents. His contributions at Aston Villa were pivotal, with 40 goals and assists combined in 85 league appearances, helping the Villans secure a fourth-place finish in England’s top flight and lift the UEFA Europa League trophy last season.

Since making his England debut in November 2024, Rogers has become a regular fixture in the Three Lions’ lineup, earning 22 caps and representing his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where England finished in third place.

The transfer, widely reported to have cost Chelsea approximately €117 million (£138 million), ranks as the second most expensive in Premier League history. Only Alexander Isak’s move from Newcastle United to Liverpool last summer, priced at £125 million, surpasses it.

Early in the summer transfer window, Arsenal had been the frontrunner to sign Rogers before Chelsea swooped in to finalize the deal. To announce his arrival, Chelsea shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), captioned: “He chose Chelsea.” This marked a direct response to the heated competition between the two clubs for the player’s signature.
