The C64 coalition has unequivocally rejected President Félix Tshisekedi’s proposal for a national dialogue, labeling the initiative as a mere distraction from the profound challenges confronting the Congolese populace. Opposition factions accuse the governing administration of substituting genuine, inclusive national discourse with ineffective and superficial overtures.

Following five hours of intense deliberations, the C64’s unified stance was articulated by Martin Fayulu. He declared, “The people are not deceived. These repeated consultations by Félix Tshisekedi do not address the urgent realities of conflict, insecurity, the health crisis, or the profound social distress afflicting the Congolese people. Instead, they divert the nation from its essential priorities.”

According to prominent opposition figures, President Tshisekedi is “cynically preoccupied” with securing his hold on power beyond his second term, which is slated to conclude in 2028. They assert that the ruling party is actively creating conditions for an extension, exploiting the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in the eastern regions of the country as a political tool. The C64 coalition stands firmly against Félix Tshisekedi’s ambitions, accusing him of being willing to consolidate the country’s fragmentation, even as his term is set to end in 754 days.

In response to what it describes as a dangerous deviation from democratic principles, the C64 intends to mobilize the population. The coalition has reiterated its call for a significant national march scheduled for September 15th, aimed at opposing the maneuvers of the current ruling camp.
