Following the official declaration of the Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak on May 15 in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, response measures were rapidly implemented across affected health areas in Ituri, Nord-Kivu, and Sud-Kivu. The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) now confirms that 19 patients have fully recovered and have been discharged from the Ebola treatment center.
As of June 7, health authorities have recorded 550 confirmed cases, including 101 deaths, across all affected health zones. Currently, 309 patients remain in isolation for ongoing care.
Ituri remains the epicenter of the epidemic. Of the 25 affected health zones, 17 are located in this province, representing nearly half of Ituri’s total of 36 health zones.
The affected zones include Aru, Aungba, Bambu, Bunia, Damas, Gety, Kilo, Komanda, Lita, Logo, Mambasa, Mangala, Mongbwalu, Nizi, Nyankunde, Rimba, and Rwampara.
