Erling Haaland’s real madrid ambition: a future move?

Erling Braut Haaland has consistently proven himself a prolific goal-scorer on the global stage, not just for Manchester City but also with his national team. Currently, he stands among the top scorers at the 2026 World Cup, boasting an impressive seven goals for Norway. Weeks ago, the president of Borussia Dortmund, the club where Haaland shone for two and a half years in the Ruhr Valley, hinted at his upcoming transfer to Real Madrid.

Just last month, Erling Braut Haaland‘s name surfaced during Enrique Riquelme’s presidential campaign for Real Madrid. Riquelme, a challenger to Florentino Pérez for the top position, had publicly stated on a television program that, if elected president, he would commit to signing Manchester City’s formidable striker. Ultimately, Pérez was re-elected to lead the Merengue institution. It appears the prospect of acquiring Haaland remains a significant consideration for him.

Real Madrid’s long-standing pursuit of Haaland

Even before Kylian Mbappé’s anticipated arrival at Real Madrid in 2024, Erling Haaland was a major transfer target for the Spanish giants, with initial interest dating back to 2021. A year later, the Norwegian international departed Borussia Dortmund to join Manchester City. Despite becoming an icon for City over five seasons, Haaland reportedly harbors the ambition of one day wearing the Merengue jersey. This sentiment was echoed by the Borussia Dortmund president in early June during an interview with AS.

“I believe he will play there in two or three years”

During Real Madrid’s eventful presidential campaign, Hans-Joachim Watzke, the Borussia Dortmund president, shared his insights: “I know very well what he thinks, and I can say that he admires Real Madrid and would like to play there in the future, but next season, he will continue to play for Manchester City. Without a doubt. He loves Real Madrid and he doesn’t hide it. I think he will play there in two or three years, but not so soon. He has not committed to any club, as his father said.” Football enthusiasts will now have to wait to see Haaland eventually arrive at the Santiago Bernabéu as a new acquisition for the Casa Blanca.
