French Prime Minister Embarks on Two-Day Official Visit to Morocco
French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu arrived in Rabat on July 15 for a two-day official visit, with multiple agreements set to be signed during his stay. The visit also paves the way for a future official trip by King Mohammed VI to France.
High-Level Delegation Accompanies Lecornu
A dozen French ministers, including Jean-Noël Barrot (Foreign Affairs) and Laurent Nuñez (Interior), joined the delegation. Their agenda includes finalizing agreements on economic cooperation, judicial collaboration, and defense initiatives. “Regional security remains an absolute priority for both Paris and Rabat,” observers noted, highlighting concerns over Sahel instability and rising terrorism threats.
Diplomatic Agenda Extends Beyond Morocco
Lecornu’s Moroccan visit follows his diplomatic mission to Qatar the previous day, where he conveyed France’s condolences after the passing of former Emir Hamad ben Khalifa Al Thani.
The timing of this Morocco trip carries added significance, as bilateral relations between France and Morocco faced strain in 2021 and 2022. The visit signals efforts to restore and strengthen diplomatic ties.
