Diplomatic relations between Gabon and Guinea are entering a new phase. On Wednesday in Conakry, Persis Lionel Essono Ondo, the newly appointed extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Gabonese Republic, presented his copies figurées to Morissanda Kouyaté, Guinea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, and Guineans Abroad.
This essential ceremonial step marks the beginning of the ambassador’s official duties and the initiation of his first formal contacts. It paves the way for the solemn presentation of his letters of credence to the President of Guinea in due course.
Strengthening strategic partnerships
The meeting between the two diplomats was not merely procedural; it also underscored the depth of the bilateral relationship, rooted in shared history, solidarity, and friendship. The Gabonese envoy conveyed fraternal greetings from the President of Gabon, along with well-wishes for success from the country’s Foreign Minister, Marie-Edithe Tassyla Ye-Doumbeneny.
“I am fully committed to collaborating closely with your ministry to further strengthen the bonds of friendship, cooperation, and brotherhood between Gabon and Guinea,” declared Persis Lionel Essono Ondo.
The discussions highlighted concrete ambitions. In a sub-regional context undergoing significant changes, both Libreville and Conakry are eager to inject new momentum into their exchanges. Key priorities include boosting economic cooperation, revitalizing bilateral trade, and establishing robust partnerships in education, security, and infrastructure.
A shared African vision
In response, Guinea’s Minister Morissanda Kouyaté warmly welcomed the Gabonese ambassador, assuring him of unwavering support from local authorities to ensure the success of his mission. Persis Lionel Essono Ondo reaffirmed his dedication to advancing Gabon’s interests while fostering closer ties between the two nations—a strong signal as the reopening of diplomatic missions approaches.
This appointment is not coincidental; it aligns with a broader goal of consolidating inter-African diplomatic axes. At a time when the continent faces numerous challenges, Gabon and Guinea are choosing pragmatic co-development guided by a spirit of enhanced cooperation and shared prosperity.
