President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema recently presided over a formal ceremony at the Palais du Bord de Mer to receive the credentials of five newly appointed ambassadors to Gabon. This official act marks the start of their diplomatic missions and underscores the vitality of the nation’s foreign relations and the trust shared with its global partners.
The group of diplomats includes the Apostolic Nuncio, Mgr Relwende Kisito Ouedraogo, as well as ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary Fadoul Kitir Zakaria from the Republic of Chad, Seyed Gholamreza Mirmohammad Meigoni representing the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Mohamed Bourhan Ali from the Republic of Djibouti. Additionally, Leilani Bin-Juda was accredited as the High Commissioner of Australia. All five representatives will be based outside the country while managing their diplomatic duties.
These appointments signal a fresh chapter in Gabon‘s international engagement, as the country seeks to deepen existing ties while expanding its network of global partners. The accreditation of the Apostolic Nuncio and the Chadian ambassador reaffirms the long-standing and excellent historical connections between Gabon, the Holy See, and Chad. Meanwhile, the arrival of the Australian High Commissioner highlights a growing economic momentum between Libreville and Canberra, particularly through the involvement of the Fortescue group in the Belinga mining project and its associated logistics infrastructure.
Cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran is expected to unlock new opportunities across various sectors. Relations with Djibouti are also set to strengthen, focusing on the green economy, port infrastructure, and maritime security. These priorities were previously highlighted by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema during his visit to Djibouti in May for the inauguration of President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh.
This diplomatic expansion supports Gabon‘s broader strategy of national transformation and economic growth, which has been a primary focus for the country’s leadership over the past few years.
