Gabon’s tax authority gears up for digital transformation under new leadership

The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, met with the newly appointed Director-General of Taxes, Edith Laure Mbiguidi Oyaya, this Wednesday, June 3, 2026. The meeting included the entire leadership team of the tax administration, as well as Thierry Minko, Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt, and State Holdings, who oversees efforts to combat rising living costs.

During the encounter, the Director-General expressed her appreciation for the appointment and outlined the key priorities of her strategic plan. Her approach centers on three core pillars: modernizing infrastructure, broadening the tax base, and enhancing revenue collection efficiency.

The administration is also prioritizing tighter monitoring and control mechanisms, emphasizing values of rigor, integrity, and professionalism to ensure compliance among taxpayers.

Digital innovation takes center stage in fighting tax evasion

The Head of State underscored the critical role of the Directorate-General of Taxes in Gabon’s economic transformation. For President Oligui Nguema, domestic revenue mobilization remains essential for funding infrastructure projects and improving public services.

To achieve these goals, he called for the immediate rollout of a fully integrated digital system. This digital leap aims to streamline taxpayer procedures, bolster financial transaction transparency, and effectively curb tax fraud.

Demanding excellence and tangible results

The Gabonese leader concluded the meeting by urging the new leadership to abandon outdated practices and embrace teamwork, discipline, and transparency. By placing performance culture at the heart of its operations, the government expects the tax authority to become a driving force in revitalizing the nation’s public finances.
