The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, met yesterday at the Palais Rénovation with Libreville’s Mayor, Eugène Mba. This was their second official gathering since their initial meeting on April 28, focusing on monitoring local governance performance, reviewing expected outcomes from municipal leaders, and strengthening state-local administrative coordination.
During the session, Mayor Mba submitted a comprehensive progress report covering his initiatives since assuming office on April 24. He outlined the revamped organizational structure of the City Hall and highlighted key urban development priorities. The discussions covered Libreville’s sustainable transformation through urban space reorganization, modern parking infrastructure expansion, green and botanical space creation, combating illegal public land occupation, and enhancing neighborhood-level facilities. The digitization of municipal services was also highlighted as a critical modernization step.
President Oligui Nguema emphasized the urgent need to accelerate urban sanitation improvements, stressing that cleanliness must become a top municipal priority. He specifically called for enhanced household waste collection systems to maintain public health standards.
The head of state reaffirmed his vision for a modern, competitive Gabon, where Libreville serves as the nation’s showcase. He underscored that the capital must meet international urban planning, local governance, and public service quality benchmarks. Concluding the meeting, he urged Mayor Mba to demonstrate unwavering commitment, innovative thinking, and operational excellence in implementing the agreed-upon projects.
