Morocco and Benin strengthen bilateral ties in key sectors

The Republic of Benin and the Kingdom of Morocco have expressed their satisfaction with the progress of their bilateral cooperation during a high-level meeting in Cotonou. Both nations have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening and expanding this partnership across multiple domains.

During preparatory talks ahead of the 7th joint session of the Morocco-Benin Cooperation Commission, Mr. Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, joined Ms. Corinne Amori Brunet, Benin’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of Afro-descendant integration, and Mr. Hugues Oscar Lokossou, Benin’s Minister Delegate for Resource Mobilization and Debt Management. The delegation highlighted the significant strides made in bilateral cooperation since His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s historic visit to Cotonou in June 2004.

The discussions centered on evaluating the current state of cooperation and exploring new avenues to inject fresh momentum. Both sides praised the deep-rooted fraternal friendship and mutual respect between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Romuald Wadagni. They also emphasized their shared vision to elevate Morocco-Benin relations into a leading model of intra-African cooperation, anchored in solidarity, exchange, and shared values.

A wide array of promising sectors was identified for collaboration, including the economy, trade, industry, investments, tourism, agriculture, justice, security, vocational training, higher education, scientific research, health, digital transformation, and cultural exchange.

The two countries further reiterated their resolve to establish a robust economic partnership that harnesses the potential of the private sector. This collaboration aims to drive economic exchanges and contribute to sustainable development financing in both nations.
