Niamey honors top students at military academy

Niamey, June 4, 2026 — The Prytanée Militaire de Niamey (PMN) gathered on Thursday to celebrate its top-performing cadets during an awards ceremony marking the close of the 2025-2026 academic year. Under the distinguished patronage of Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, General de Division Salaou Barmou, the event highlighted the academic achievements of the institution’s most dedicated students throughout the school year.

The ceremony honored cadets who ranked first in their classes, from sixth grade through the final year. By recognizing these students, school officials underscored the importance of merit, hard work, and discipline—core values embedded in the PMN’s educational philosophy.

Attendees included high-ranking officials such as members of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), the Vice President of the Consultative Council for Refoundation (CCR), accredited diplomatic and consular representatives, the Governor of the Niamey region, leaders from the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), alongside proud parents and other distinguished guests.

Outstanding academic achievements

The awards reflect the rigorous academic standards upheld at the Prytanée Militaire de Niamey. This year’s top performers demonstrated exceptional dedication, with the highest average in the lower secondary cycle reaching 18.55 out of 20, while the best student in the upper secondary cycle achieved 17.44 out of 20. These results highlight not only the students’ commitment but also the excellence of the teaching staff and institutional leadership.

Encouraging excellence for tomorrow’s leaders

Beyond honoring individual achievements, the ceremony served as a moment of collective recognition for the year’s efforts. It also aimed to inspire all cadets to continue striving for excellence in academics, civic responsibility, and military training.

The PMN reaffirmed its mission to cultivate disciplined, skilled young leaders deeply committed to public service while nurturing the next generation of Niger’s elite. The event reinforced the institution’s belief that excellence is the cornerstone of its educational approach—both a reward for past dedication and a catalyst for future generations to embrace the values of perseverance and self-improvement.
