Nice to play next match behind closed doors after riots at Allianz Riviera

The disciplinary committee has imposed two full stadium closures and a suspended match for the Allianz Riviera following incidents during the Nice-Metz game on Sunday. The OGC Nice, which has already lodged an appeal, will now face Saint-Étienne behind closed doors in the second leg of the playoff on May 29.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel disciplinary committee handed down its decision on Monday, sanctioning Nice with two complete stadium closures and one suspended match at the Allianz Riviera. The sanctions stem from “the use and throwing of pyrotechnic devices, pitch invasions, and damage following the final whistle” during the final Ligue 1 matchday against Metz.

As a result, the club will be forced to play their Ligue 1 playoff second leg against Saint-Étienne on May 29 without spectators. The first leg at Geoffroy-Guichard on May 26 will also see Nice without striker Elye Wahi, who has been handed a suspension. The club has already announced its intention to appeal the decision in hopes of securing a fan-friendly return leg.

Paris Saint-Germain also received a sanction, with the closure of the Auteuil stand at the Parc des Princes for “pyrotechnic use and visual expressions observed”. This penalty will apply to their first home Ligue 1 match of the 2026-2027 season.

Other sanctions handed down
A firm one-match suspension resulting from a fifth booking or suspension reversal:
Benjamin André (Lille), Mahdi Camara (Stade Rennais FC), Christian Mawissa (AS Monaco), Elye Wahi (OGC Nice).

The case of FC Nantes, following the pitch invasion at the start of their match against Toulouse, has been deferred for a later hearing.
