Niger energy project: Adjal announces launch of 40 MW plant in N’Djamena

Historic milestone in Niger-Chad energy cooperation

The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mr. Mourad Adjal, has revealed plans for a 40-megawatt electrical power plant in N’Djamena, Chad’s capital, with groundbreaking ceremonies scheduled within days. This initiative marks a significant expansion of Sonelgaz International‘s operations across the African continent.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Algerian-Nigerien Solidarity Power Plant in Niamey’s Gorou Banda district, Mr. Adjal highlighted the successful completion of the 40 MW facility, emphasizing Sonelgaz International’s ability to deliver major cross-border energy projects efficiently and within stipulated timelines.

The minister noted that the company is now preparing to launch additional projects across several African nations, beginning with the new power plant in Chad. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place shortly, signaling the start of construction.

Growing international demand for Algerian energy expertise

Mr. Adjal also underscored the rising global interest in Sonelgaz International’s technical capabilities. Countries such as Côte d’Ivoire and Mozambique have expressed strong demand for the company’s expertise, with several new projects in development. These initiatives align with broader energy programs that Sonelgaz International is committed to advancing, leveraging its technical know-how and efficiency in project execution.

The energy minister emphasized that Sonelgaz International will serve as a catalyst for both public and private Algerian enterprises, integrating them into project development cycles through value chain partnerships. This approach is expected to enhance the participation of national companies and skilled professionals in African markets.

Earlier this year, Algeria and Chad formalized their commitment to this project through an agreement signed in May, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision to bolster South-South partnerships and support African development.
