Norway’s Minister of International Development, His Excellency Åsmund Aukrust, concluded a two-day official visit to Dakar from May 3 to 4, 2026.
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dakar hosted a landmark visit by Norway’s Minister of International Development, Åsmund Aukrust, as part of an official mission to Senegal between May 3 and 4, 2026. This high-level engagement underscores the deepening bilateral ties and collaborative efforts between the two nations.
During his stay, the Minister engaged in strategic discussions with key Senegalese leaders, including the Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, the Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition, Elhadj Abdourahmane Diouf, the Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation, Abdourahmane Sarr, as well as the President of the National Assembly, El Malick Ndiaye.
These meetings provided a platform to address critical regional and global challenges, with a strong focus on the security landscape in the Sahel, sustainable development priorities, and multilateral initiatives such as the UN80 agenda. The visit served as a reaffirmation of both countries’ commitment to strengthening cooperation in trade, climate action, and governance.
The Norwegian delegation also highlighted Senegal’s pivotal role as a stable democracy and a cornerstone partner in fostering regional peace and economic collaboration.
