OM faces warning over Mason Greenwood transfer saga

The transfer saga surrounding Mason Greenwood has taken yet another unexpected turn, leaving football circles buzzing with speculation. After initial reports suggested a move to AS Roma was imminent, the English winger has now shifted his focus towards Fenerbahçe. This abrupt change of heart has raised eyebrows in Serie A circles.

With financial constraints forcing Olympique de Marseille (OM) to offload high-earning players, Greenwood’s potential departure has become a priority. The club’s decision to explore options has led to intense negotiation phases, but the latest developments have left many questioning the reliability of such processes. While AS Roma had identified Greenwood as their top target under Gian Piero Gasperini’s management, Fenerbahçe has now emerged as the most likely destination.

Transfer pitfalls highlighted by Italian experts

Italian football pundits have been vocal about the risks inherent in such volatile transfer negotiations. Roberto Pruzzo emphasized the unpredictability of Greenwood’s situation, stating, “Greenwood’s case is a classic example of how these deals often collapse. There’s always uncertainty about whether the player truly wants to join a club, and more often than not, they end up elsewhere.” His colleague Fernando Orsi added, “Football doesn’t revolve around Greenwood. Personally, I wouldn’t trust him based on his profile. For the same budget, Roma could secure a far more suitable player. The World Cup is a prime opportunity for emerging talents.”

Roma’s plan B takes shape amid transfer uncertainty

Paolo Marcacci has already begun exploring alternatives for Gasperini’s team. “Moreira is a top-tier player whose style perfectly aligns with Roma’s system. His stock has risen significantly following his World Cup performances, but the club must also consider Nusa, Garnacho, and other prospects. Tresoldi, too, has delivered an impressive season. Gasperini has the tools to refine Moreira into an even more complete player. Meanwhile, Greenwood’s salary demands are beyond Italian clubs’ reach, and Roma’s decision to forgo Champions League participation complicates matters.”
