The Paris Saint-Germain faces Arsenal in the Champions League final this Saturday in Budapest. While thousands of PSG fans will gather in the Parc des Princes fan zone and local bars to cheer on their team, a victory won’t lead to the traditional victory parade down the Champs-Élysées the next day.
Paris is set for a packed weekend. On May 30th, alongside the football finale, concerts across the region will draw between 150,000 and 200,000 people into the city’s streets. The Préfecture de Police is preparing an extensive security operation to manage the influx safely.
Traffic restrictions will begin Friday evening at 5:00 PM and extend through Sunday morning. The security perimeter spans multiple arrondissements, including parts of the 8th, 16th, and 17th. While vehicle access will be blocked in key areas, pedestrian movement will remain unrestricted.
Champ de Mars emerges as potential victory celebration site
With the Champs-Élysées parade ruled out, authorities are exploring alternatives for post-match celebrations. Last year’s event drew 110,000 fans to the iconic avenue, but this season, a shift toward the Champ de Mars in the 7th arrondissement is gaining traction. The area’s proximity to the Eiffel Tower offers a globally recognizable backdrop for victory photos, a key element in maximizing the event’s international appeal.
If confirmed, the Champ de Mars would be closed to traffic from Saturday at 10:00 PM through Sunday at 8:00 PM to ensure smooth festivities. This option aligns with last year’s celebrations near the Arc de Triomphe, maintaining a consistent approach to fan gatherings.
PSG remains tight-lipped on post-match plans
The club has not yet made any official announcements regarding post-victory celebrations. A spokesperson stated that preparations are fully focused on match day logistics, with coordination with authorities to follow in the event of a win. “No decision has been made, and no announcement is planned at this stage,” the statement read. “Should celebrations be organized, full coordination with relevant agencies will be ensured.”
As the final approaches, all eyes are on Budapest—and the potential aftermath in Paris. Whether the Champ de Mars becomes the epicenter of victory celebrations or a new plan emerges, the city is ready to host a historic weekend of football and festivities.
