Côte d’Ivoire accelerates youth digital inclusion with new UN-Orange partnership
Abidjan — A landmark collaboration between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Orange Côte d’Ivoire is set to transform the digital landscape for young people, particularly women, across the country. The strategic agreement, finalized in the capital on May 21, 2026, marks a significant step toward bridging digital divides and fostering sustainable growth through technology.
This initiative underscores a shared commitment to reducing inequality by equipping young Ivorians with essential digital competencies. Through joint programs, the partners aim to empower entrepreneurs, strengthen startup ecosystems, and extend digital access to underserved rural and vulnerable communities. At the heart of this effort lies the Orange Digital Center, a hub designed to nurture innovation and provide mentorship to aspiring digital professionals.
The partnership aligns with the country’s broader vision for digital transformation, as outlined in the National Development Plan (PND) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By leveraging private sector expertise and international support, both organizations seek to position Côte d’Ivoire as a leader in the global digital economy while ensuring no segment of society is left behind.
Speaking on behalf of the UNDP, Resident Representative Blerta Cela emphasized the transformative potential of this alliance: “This collaboration represents a pivotal moment in our drive to democratize digital access and entrepreneurial opportunities in Côte d’Ivoire. By uniting the strengths of public and private sectors, we can build a more inclusive and resilient future.”
Orange Côte d’Ivoire’s CEO, Mamadou Bamba, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the company’s dedication to creating tangible pathways for youth and marginalized groups to thrive in the digital sphere. “We are committed to unlocking opportunities that enable young Ivorians to shape their own destinies through technology,” he stated.
The initiative’s roadmap includes tailored training initiatives, incubation support for startups, and targeted outreach to remote regions, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the nation. As Côte d’Ivoire continues to chart its course in the digital era, this partnership stands as a testament to the power of collaboration in driving progress.
