Peru backs Morocco’s autonomy plan and territorial integrity over Sahara dispute
The incoming Peruvian administration has pledged to uphold Morocco’s territorial sovereignty, including its southern provinces, according to a statement from President-elect Keiko Fujimori’s office.
This commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting with Morocco’s Ambassador to Peru, Amin Chaoudri, who presented a congratulatory message from King Mohammed VI following Fujimori’s election as President of Peru.
The upcoming government’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, including its claim to the southern provinces, was underscored. Fujimori also reiterated her full support for UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which endorses the autonomy plan as the framework for a final resolution to the long-standing Sahara dispute.
In his message, the Moroccan Monarch congratulated Fujimori on her election and expressed confidence in her ability to advance Peru’s aspirations for greater progress and prosperity. Highlighting the strong bonds between Morocco and Peru—rooted in shared values and mutual respect—King Mohammed VI emphasized his eagerness to collaborate with Fujimori to elevate bilateral relations to a multidimensional partnership, benefiting both nations.
