Salomon Beas argues the MRC fails to uphold democratic principles

In a scathing Facebook post, Salomon Beas, a former member of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC), has accused his former party of abandoning its democratic ideals. The post, titled ‘Tribal purge or democratic struggle within the MRC?’, challenges the party’s commitment to democracy and transparency.

‘In its etymological roots, the MRC was presented as a legally recognized political party in Cameroon, designed to showcase democratic structures and provide citizens with a fertile ground to nurture their political culture and build a strong foundation for the nation’s future democracy. Instead, we witnessed a facade—one that devours members from within, stripping them of their political voice and preventing any meaningful evolution beyond its confines,’ Beas wrote.

He further alleged that the party’s leadership operates through a network of tribal caciques, willing to eliminate members who challenge its ethnically driven agenda. ‘The MRC we know hides a darker side—one controlled by influential tribal elites who wield power ruthlessly. Those who uncover its true, ethnically motivated project face political annihilation,’ he stated.

Beas also criticized the MRC for reducing its members to blind loyalty toward its leader, undermining the very essence of democratic participation.

‘…The late Paul Eric Kingue, may his soul rest in peace, once warned the public through his letters, branding the MRC an ethno-fascist tribal sect that used others as mere tools to climb the political ladder. He cautioned that its true objectives were hidden from most members, adding that dissenters risked being ‘vitrified’—silenced and erased. Time has proven him right. Within the MRC, tribal affiliations now overshadow ideas, and political elimination has become a core operating principle. What we criticize the ruling RDPC for, the MRC replicates with calculated precision—substituting democratic values with tribal dominance under the guise of leadership. We must remember: politics is not a traditional chieftaincy,’ Beas emphasized.
