Strasbourg stuns monaco in dramatic ligue 1 comeback

Trailing 4-1 in the second half, RC Strasbourg staged a breathtaking recovery to secure a dramatic 5-4 triumph over Monaco on matchday 34 of Ligue 1.

The eighth-placed hosts faced a seventh-placed side that dominated early exchanges with fluid passing and relentless pressure. Despite solid goalkeeping from Mike Penders, Monaco’s collective brilliance seemed unstoppable. It took just nine minutes for Lamine Camara to break the deadlock with a perfectly timed tackle, capitalizing on a hesitant clearance to fire past the goalkeeper. Strasbourg, struggling to impose themselves, found themselves chasing shadows.

Against all odds, the Alsatians clawed their way back into the contest. At the 34th minute, a long ball from Penders found Martial Godo, whose quick interplay with Julio Enciso set up a close-range finish past Lukas Hradecky. The momentum shifted abruptly as Camara added his second, exploiting a loose touch before slotting home with precision. Monaco’s lead evaporated as Maghnes Akliouche was denied by the woodwork, but Ansu Fati pounced on the rebound to double Strasbourg’s tally. The game teetered on a knife-edge before Christian Mawissa blazed over in stoppage time, leaving the half-time score at 3-1.

a second-half surge seals the unthinkable

Garnering fresh motivation in the dressing room, Strasbourg returned with renewed intensity. Monaco, already aware of Marseille’s victory over Rennes, knew their sixth-place aspirations were dashed. The Rocher’s defense wobbled under pressure as Ismaël Doukouré inadvertently turned a cross into his own net at the 56th minute. Diego Moreira then ignited the crowd with a thunderous strike from outside the box, leaving no chance for Hradecky.

Within three minutes, Moreira laid on a golden opportunity for Sebastian Nanasi, whose composed finish extended the lead. The floodgates seemed to reopen at the 72nd minute when Godo’s cross was diverted by Enciso into Nanasi’s path, restoring parity. Emboldened by their supporters, Strasbourg seized control in the dying embers. A swift counterattack culminated in Enciso’s exquisite curled effort from 20 yards, sealing a 5-4 victory that will be etched in local folklore.
