The President of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, received a special envoy from Chad’s President, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, on Friday in Lomé. The talks centered around strengthening bilateral relations, African integration, and the upcoming Water Africa Forum scheduled for July 15-16, 2026, in N’Djamena.
The President of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, granted an audience to Fatime Aldjineh Garfa, a deputy minister at the Chadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She brought a personal message from Chad’s President, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.
The special envoy reaffirmed Chad’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Togo. Discussions also focused on the challenges of African integration and water cooperation.
“We brought a personal message from the President of the Republic, Head of State, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, to the President of the Council of the Republic of Togo, His Excellency Monsieur Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. We also extended an official invitation from the Head of State of Chad to the Water Africa Forum, scheduled for July 15-16, 2026, in N’Djamena,” said Fatime Aldjineh Garfa.
The Water Africa Forum is part of the African Union’s Agenda 2063. It will bring together African leaders and technical partners to discuss investments in hydropower infrastructure across the continent.
Through this visit, Lomé and N’Djamena reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their political partnership and promoting joint initiatives for Africa’s development and integration.
