An armed assault in the village of Bosiye, located in western Niger, has resulted in the tragic loss of 31 civilian lives. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, has left four others in critical condition, requiring urgent medical attention.
Bosiye falls within the Gorouol municipality, situated in the Tillabéri region—often referred to as the “tri-border area” due to its proximity to Burkina Faso and Mali. This region has become a hotspot for jihadist violence, with armed groups such as the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM) and the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS) intensifying their operations over the past decade.
Attacks in this area have surged in frequency, posing a growing threat to local communities. The violence underscores the persistent security challenges faced by residents in a region plagued by extremist activity.
