Pope Leo XIV has appointed Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya as a member of the Section for the First Evangelisation and New Particular Churches within the Dicastery for Evangelisation. The move has been welcomed by Cameroonian lawyer and civil society figure Akere Muna.
Andrew Nkea Fuanya receives a significant promotion from Pope Leo XIV. The prelate now joins the Section for the First Evangelisation and New Particular Churches of the Dicastery for Evangelisation. His responsibilities will include assisting the Holy See in nurturing young churches and guiding global mission efforts.
Akere Muna, a prominent Cameroonian civil society activist, applauded this appointment. In his statement, the lawyer described the nomination as a profound recognition of Nkea’s pastoral wisdom, relentless service, and unwavering commitment to the Church. He added that it stands as a powerful testament to the light that the archbishop continues to bring to Cameroon, Africa, and the universal Church.
“I am convinced that in this new mission, he will continue to serve with the same courage, clarity, and paternal compassion that have defined his ministry over the years,” Muna wrote. Archbishop Andrew Nkea was appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Bamenda in 2019. Elected president of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon on 30 April 2022, he has played a leading role in peace dialogue in the country’s crisis-stricken regions.
