Military ties take center stage after Cameroon’s Unity Day celebrations

Following the 54th National Unity Day parade where Chad’s military delegation participated, Cameroon and Chad are moving to solidify their long-standing defense cooperation. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Defense in Yaoundé, brought together key military figures from both nations to discuss enhanced collaboration.

On May 21, 2026, Cameroon’s Minister Delegate to the Presidency in charge of Defense, Mr. Beti Assomo Joseph, hosted a high-level meeting with General Issakha Malloua Djamous, Chad’s Minister of National Defense, Veterans, and War Victims. The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral military ties and addressing shared regional security challenges.

The Chadian delegation, led by General Djamous, was received with warmth and mutual respect. Conversations highlighted the convergence of views between Yaoundé and N’Djamena on key strategic issues, with both sides emphasizing the importance of sustained collaboration for regional stability.

The Chadian National and Nomadic Guard’s participation in the Unity Day parade on Yaoundé’s May 20 Boulevard served as a powerful symbol of the strong military ties between the two countries. Beyond the military display, the meeting underscored Cameroon’s commitment to deepening partnerships with neighboring nations to foster peace, security, and regional integration.
