Chad advances digital shift in technical education with national strategy

The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Vocational Training recently hosted a pivotal national workshop in N’Djamena to review and validate a groundbreaking diagnostic report. This report lays the foundation for Chad’s upcoming National Strategy on Digital Transformation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Bringing together key stakeholders, the session aimed to refine and endorse a document that will guide the country’s digitalization efforts in TVET systems.

This initiative aligns with the Pan-African Initiative for Digital Transformation in TVET, supported by prominent partners including UNESCO, the International Organisation of La Francophonie, the African Union, the African Development Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the GIZ-SIFA program. Its goal: to modernize Chad’s technical and vocational education in a sustainable and enduring way. The preparatory study engaged over 200 participants from 57 TVET centers and supporting structures, through comprehensive field missions and digital data collection spanning the country’s academic regions.

Dr. Djininboh Gabriel, Director General of Human Resources, Statistics, and Digitalization, opened the event on behalf of the Secretary of State for Higher Education. He emphasized the strategic importance of digital transformation in aligning TVET systems with technological advancements and evolving job markets. The Government, he noted, is prioritizing digital tools as a key driver for modernizing vocational training nationwide.

The analysis highlights both progress and critical challenges. Key areas needing attention include digital governance, infrastructure, internet connectivity, reliable power supply, trainer development, and the integration of digital skills into curricula. Participants were urged to contribute insights to ensure the final strategy is practical, inclusive, and tailored to Chad’s unique context.

Following the workshop, the validated report will serve as the blueprint for developing the National Digital Transformation Strategy for TVET and its operational action plan for 2026–2030. The ultimate aim is to build a robust, high-performing TVET system that meets the demands of a rapidly changing employment landscape.
