Como and Inter Milan battle for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah

Trevoh Chalobah is increasingly likely to swap Stamford Bridge for Serie A as Italian interest in the defender peaks. Currently representing England at the World Cup, the centre-back has emerged as a top target for both the reigning Italian champions, Inter Milan, and the ambitious newcomers, Como. The latter has already moved forward with a formal proposal to secure his services.

Como submits formal bid for Chalobah

The race for the defender has officially begun with Como submitting a formal offer. Led by former Chelsea and Arsenal star Cesc Fàbregas, the ambitious Serie A side is looking to bolster its ranks after a surprise qualification for the Champions League. Chalobah, who has been part of the Chelsea setup since the age of eight, is viewed as the ideal candidate to lead the club’s defensive line on the European stage.

While the specific financial details of the offer remain confidential, Chelsea appears open to negotiating for the Cobham academy graduate. Despite being a mainstay in the lineup last season with 47 appearances and three Premier League goals, the club may opt to sell him to generate funds for new defensive targets. With a contract running until 2028, the Blues hold a strong position in these transfer talks.

Inter Milan enters the race for the Chelsea star

The reigning Italian champions, Inter Milan, are also keeping a close watch on the situation. The Nerazzurri see Chalobah as a vital addition to their defensive rotation, valuing his proven Premier League experience and tactical flexibility. Under the guidance of Cristian Chivu, the club is looking for players who can handle the pressure of elite competition. If a bidding war commences, Chelsea could see a significant return on their homegrown talent.

A move to San Siro would offer Chalobah immediate prestige, allowing him to defend a league title while competing at the highest level of European football. The lure of the Champions League is a significant factor, especially since Chelsea will not feature in any continental competition next season following a disappointing 10th-place finish.

Tuchel maintains faith in Chalobah

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his club career, England manager Thomas Tuchel remains a firm believer in the defender’s abilities. Chalobah was a late addition to the Three Lions’ World Cup squad, called up to replace the injured Tino Livramento. By selecting the 26-year-old over veteran options like Harry Maguire, Tuchel has signaled that Chalobah remains a top-tier talent.

His opportunities on the pitch have been limited so far, as he did not feature in the opening victory against Croatia or the draw with Ghana. However, his inclusion in the squad, even with only one international cap to his name, underscores the high regard in which he is held by the coaching staff.

Chelsea defensive reshuffle continues

The potential departure of Chalobah is part of a wider defensive transformation led by manager Xabi Alonso. Chelsea is already scouting replacements, with Maxence Lacroix of Crystal Palace and Jacobo Ramon of Como on their shortlist. The club has already committed £51 million to sign Marco Palestra from Atalanta as they look to fix the issues that plagued their backline last season.

The search for a new left-back has also gained momentum following Marc Cucurella’s high-profile move to Real Madrid. Gabriel Gudmundsson from Leeds United has emerged as a primary target as the club seeks better balance in the squad. With Chalobah likely heading to Italy, the high turnover of players at Stamford Bridge shows no signs of slowing down this summer.
