A €28 Million Deal Takes Shape

As we reported earlier, Anan Khalaili’s absence from the weekend’s match against Westerlo was directly linked to ongoing negotiations with Crystal Palace.

Today, it has become clear that significant progress has been made between all parties involved. The player is expected to finalize his commitment to the Eagles later this week. The estimated value of this transaction stands at a substantial 28 million euros.

Khalaili has already reached an agreement with the London-based club and is likely to step into the role currently held by Daniel Munoz, the former Genk player, who is reportedly seeking a transfer to a larger club.

According to football expert David Ornstein, Anan Khalaili is set to sign a long-term contract, spanning five years with an additional year option.

This transfer represents a mutually beneficial outcome for all involved. While Union Saint-Gilloise may receive slightly less than the 32 million euros initially discussed with Inter, the 28 million euro fee still shatters their previous outgoing transfer record, which was set by Franjo Ivanovic’s move to Benfica last year, also for 28 million euros including bonuses.

From the player’s perspective, Khalaili was eager to embrace a new environment and elevate his career. Although he won’t be competing in the Champions League in England, he will be joining what is widely regarded as the best league globally. His ability to play in the Premier League, unlike Serie A, is largely due to the less stringent regulations concerning cardiac conditions. This regulatory difference famously allowed Christian Eriksen to continue his career at Brentford (and later Manchester United) after receiving a defibrillator, following his departure from Inter Milan.

With all parties in agreement, Anan Khalaili’s final step will be to successfully complete his medical examination before officially signing his Premier League contract. We all hope this time, the process proceeds without any complications.
