Ivorian opposition leader Laurent Gbagbo reshapes party leadership

The former Ivorian President and current leader of the Parti des Peuples Africains-Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI), Laurent Gbagbo, has taken a significant step to restructure his party’s leadership by delegating key presidential powers to five prominent figures within the organisation.

In an official statement released by the PPA-CI, the move aims to foster a more collective and collaborative governance model within the party. The announcement, which outlines the new roles and responsibilities, reflects Gbagbo’s vision of strengthening the party’s unity and operational efficiency.

Five key appointments to drive party strategy

The newly appointed officials will each oversee distinct but complementary areas of the party’s functioning. Assoa Adou has been designated as the first vice-president, tasked with ensuring strict adherence to the party’s statutes and internal regulations across all levels of the organisation. Hubert Oulaye, the second vice-president, will preside over central committee meetings, acting as a delegate for the party’s leadership.

Dano Djédjé Sébastien has been named president of the strategic and political council, entrusted with overseeing the party’s overall direction and ensuring cohesive leadership. The remaining two delegates, whose names were not disclosed in the statement, will support the implementation of these structural changes.

A new era of shared leadership

Explaining the rationale behind this delegation, Laurent Gbagbo emphasised that the strength of the PPA-CI lies not in the authority of a single individual but in the synergy among its leaders and members. “This decision underscores our commitment to collective responsibility and the power of unified action,” he stated.

Gbagbo also highlighted the importance of discipline, unity, and complementary roles in overcoming challenges and advancing the party’s mission. “Together, we can address every obstacle and effectively serve the Ivorian people,” he added, reinforcing the party’s dedication to its core objectives.
