President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, will not travel to New York as previously planned for the July 22 high-level United Nations Security Council debate on natural resource governance as a foundation for peace, security, and prosperity.

This engagement was slated as the highlight of the DRC’s Security Council presidency for July 2026, following the July 13 Arria-formula meeting in New York led by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner.

According to informed sources, the change in plans stems from evolving political and security dynamics within the country that demand the President’s sustained presence in Kinshasa. The sources did not elaborate on the specific nature of these developments.
