DRC senate begins second reading of referendum bill
- Politics
Senate President Sama Lukonde announced on June 10 during a plenary session that the National Assembly had transmitted the bill establishing the conditions for organizing a referendum in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The text, which must be examined in a second reading by the upper house of Parliament, has been referred to the Political, Administrative, and Legal (PAJ) Commission for in-depth study. This commission has a three-day deadline to submit its report.
The bill was initiated in the National Assembly by deputy Paul-Gaspard Ngondankoy, representing the Yahuma territory in Tshopo province.
On May 9, the lower house adopted this text by a large majority. Out of 351 deputies who voted, 348 voted in favor, two voted against, and one abstained.
