The French Embassy in Chad hosted a gathering on the evening of July 14, 2026, at the French residence in N’Djamena to commemorate French National Day. The event brought together a diverse crowd, including Chad’s Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, military leaders, diplomatic envoys, French residents in Chad, government officials, private sector representatives, and civil society figures.

The celebration kicked off with the national anthems of both nations, followed by a speech from France’s Ambassador to Chad, Éric Gérard. He emphasized the significance of July 14 for France and its people, reflecting on the core values of liberty, equality, and fraternity that define the French Republic.

Ambassador Gérard also reflected on the deep historical ties between France and Chad, forged over decades of collaboration. He paid tribute to the veterans present at the event, acknowledging their contributions.

« This friendship is built day by day. We must continue to strengthen our bonds through mutual respect, affection, honesty, and sincerity. We know how to speak openly when needed, » he stated.

The ambassador highlighted the active 39 joint projects between the two countries, spanning critical sectors such as water supply, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, education, and youth and civil society initiatives. « The meeting between our heads of state on January 29 in Paris marked a pivotal moment in reshaping our partnership, » he noted.

He also pointed to the second milestone—the Africa-France Summit in Nairobi—where leaders from 49 nations, including Chad, convened to chart a shared future.

Gérard underscored France’s commitment to Chad’s development, particularly through the national development plan « Tchad Connexion 2030, » a roadmap designed to propel the country forward.

The evening concluded on a note of renewed commitment to the enduring friendship between France and Chad, as guests celebrated the progress achieved and the promise of future collaboration.
