A high-level meeting in Libreville
Colonel Michaël Randrianirina arrived in Libreville last Friday for a series of discussions with President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. This visit marks a significant step in reinforcing the diplomatic ties between Gabon and Madagascar.
The President of the Refoundation of the Republic of Madagascar embarked on a forty-eight-hour working and friendship tour to the Gabonese capital. The central event of the visit was an official audience with President Oligui Nguema at the Palais Rénovation. The dialogue between the two leaders focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploring the institutional refoundation process currently underway in Madagascar.
Sharing experience in governance
During the engagement, the Malagasy delegation was presented with an overview of Gabon’s political transition. Professor Guy Rossatanga-Rignault detailed the primary stages of this period and the core principles that guided the nation’s return to constitutional order. In turn, the Gabonese President affirmed his country’s readiness to support Madagascar through its own process of institutional restoration.
The Malagasy head of state indicated a strong desire to learn from Gabon’s expertise in governance and institutional consolidation. Concluding their talks, both leaders expressed their satisfaction with the exceptional quality of the relationship between their two nations.
Colonel Michaël Randrianirina came to power in Madagascar in October 2025. His rise followed extensive youth-led protests against the former president, Andry Rajoelina, which were triggered by critical shortages of water and electricity.
