Gabon continues constructive economic dialogue with the IMF

Gabon is actively engaged in negotiations and technical preparations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to establish a new framework for economic cooperation. The nation consistently maintains its vital dialogue with this longstanding partner. Officials confirm that discussions between the Gabonese government and the IMF continue on a regular basis, characterized by a constructive and responsible atmosphere.

Since the conclusion of the spring meetings last April, Gabonese representatives and IMF teams have been conducting regular exchanges via videoconference. These sessions adhere to a jointly established timetable, primarily dedicated to technical discussions. A significant development occurred on July 2, 2026, in Washington, D.C., at the IMF headquarters, where Thierry Minko, Gabon’s Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt, and Participations, responsible for combating the high cost of living, held an amicable meeting. He engaged with the IMF’s Africa Director and their collaborators, including Aliona Cebotari, who serves as the Mission Chief for Gabon.

This ongoing dialogue, according to government statements, follows a meticulously crafted and jointly agreed roadmap. This comprehensive plan is strategically structured around several key pillars: the revised finance law for 2026, the macroeconomic and budgetary framework for the 2027-2029 period, the continuous consolidation of economic, financial, and budgetary data, and the careful preparation for subsequent phases of engagement with the International Monetary Fund.
